Studio 10

I appeared on the tv show Studio 10 with Kurt and we painted a sweet bearded dude with the hosts of Studio 10 sitting in his beard. We also talked about the Innerwest Council’s Perfect Match program. It was grouse.

The Birth of Beardus Video

Check out the Birth of Beardus tonight (23 August 2017) at Tortoiseshell Gallery for the opening night of ‘500 Years’.
Curated by Activated Walls the show features modern day artworks inspired by heaps old artworks. The show runs until 10 Sep.
An Ode to the Birth of Beardus
In the bearded world its a fact little known
That the first ever beard was not actually grownIt appeared fully formed and huge and long
Attached to a man as the world sang a song “Beardus is born, Beardus is here
What a beautiful beard, let us all cheer!” Indeed worthy of song was the beard born that day
The greatest beard to have ever lived so the legends say

The beard was so great clothes the man had no need to wear
His private parts covered by that beautiful face hair

Sadly the purity of beards slowly diminished over time
Each generations beard with less length and shine

But we hold out hope that the beard is here to stay
Growing a little on every mans face each and every day

Spanner Beard Samson Original Painting

My online shop has heaps of rad stuff up there at the moment including very rare original paintings like this one of good ole Spanner Beard Samson whom I named in honour of my heaps strong nephew. Check it out here. The Story of  Spanner Beard Samson

Spanner Beard Samson was the strongest mechanic to ever live. He was so strong that he was constantly breaking his tools as he never really got a grip on the extent of his immense power. He was so sick of his tools breaking that he invented a new type of metal called Samsongold. It had the lustre of gold and the strength of 10 bulls. He made all of his own tools using this new hybrid metal. It was so strong that when he was working sometimes his spanners would go flying out of his hands and get lodged in his beard. The spanners stayed lodged there for his whole life because he could not get them out because his beard was the strongest part of his whole body and no scissors (not even Samsongold scissors) could cut it.

Newtown Art Seat

For the month of July 2015 I displayed 3 bearded dude heads in the Newtown Art Seat. I called the artwork “Beards, beards, beards”.

There was a poem that accompanied the 3 bearded dude heads, it went like this.

An Ode to Beards, Beards, Beards

Beards are nice and useful too
They are great to house your spanners or flamingo crew

An Ode to Smokey Joe the Hipster

I would like you to meet Mr Smokey Joe
If it’s a hipster your after he’s the guy to know

He rolls his own durries and wears a big coat
And like a duck to water he’s not one to gloat

He knows the cool bands before they exist
And that’s cooler than hip if your getting my gist

But his claim to glory and hipster crown
Is the growth on his face, his beard so brown

Without this feature he would cease to exist
Be but a vapour of air or a patch of mist

It signifies that he is the dominant man
Because without the beard he’s probably bland

So the lesson to learn and heed this time
And the reason for this here hipster ryhme

Is that growing a beard could be your best move
Get you outta your funk and into the groove

This beard could become your very best feature
And transform you into a hairy masculine creature

Bearded Elvis

Today marks the day 56 years ago that Elvis’s debut album, “Elvis Presley” was released.

I drew a picture of him with a sweet beard.

You can buy a print of this artwork here.

An Ode to Bearded Elvis

Most geezers think Elvis aint alive
But the truth is he’s just in disguise

I saw him the other day cruising down the street
He had a beard so spectacular and long and neat

Turns out he’s been hiding away
Behind his beard and bales of hay

All those many, many moons ago
He grew tired of the crowds and the Elvis show

So he pretended to die and began to grow a mo
Then the mo became a goatee that hung so low

Then came the chops and a full beard in time
Thus concludes this story and bearded Elvis rhyme

Laser Head Lance

Laser Head Lance by Mulga the Artist

© Mulga 2012, Laser Head Lance, Acrylic on Board, 70 x 120 cm

The original Laser Head Lance painting is available for sale in Platform72 Gallery, Oxford Street, Sydney

An Ode to Laser Head Lance

Laser Head Lance is a slippery old cat
Lives in a world of shadows covered up by his hat

The one day the wind turned from breeze into gale
Blew up his hat like a boat under sail

Those secrets within did explode out his head
And the colour of his hands were a deep shade of red

His secrets revealed that he’d been quite bad
And the fallout was severe and the people were mad

Oh how the mighty have fallen and the proud do stumble
Now Laser Head Lance is humbler than humble

Dracula Darrell (Prepare to Meet Thy Doom haha)

© Mulga 2012, Dracula Darrell (Prepare to Meet Thy Doom haha), Posca and acrylic paint on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Dracula Darrell

Dracula Darrell comes from a family
Of bloodsucking monsters ever so scary

He has the skill of shooting beams of energy
Outta his hands and into his enemy

These radiactive lasers, so mutant and deadly
Will vaporize anybody who appears unfriendly

A zap zap here and a zap zap there
My laser beams are gunna give you a scare

That’s what he sings when he’s zapping away
And his smile so deranged stays around all day

Gary the Goatee Man

© Mulga 2012, Gary the Goatee Man, Posca and acrylic paint on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Gary the Goatee Man

Like John travolta this goats got style
But he’s also deadly, like slipping on a tile

Gary is a mutant, half goat half man
An unholy abomination, something like spam

He works security at a mutant night spot
Zapping unruly patrons with lasers so hot

He’s a grumpy old goat there aint no changing that
And dont ever try to make him wear a hat

Lion Hat Leigh

© Mulga 2012, Lion Hat Leigh,Posca on Paper, 42 x 59 cm

An Ode to Lion Hat Leigh

Lion hat Leigh lives high in a tree
His Beard turned green, a sight to be seen

Because of his hat he’s chief of the tribe
He’s also very muscly, of this is do not lie

His hat was once a lion of the mountain kind
The taste of human flesh, it really did not mind

One night this lion it did pounce on Leigh
As he lay in his sleep he got bit on the knee

Then Leigh arose and battled this lion
Gave it a head butt and then it lay dying

He picked it up and put it on his head
Then lay back down to sleep in his bed

Zombie King of the Sea

© Mulga 2012, Zombie King of the Sea, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 55 x 75 cm

An Ode to the Zombie King of the Sea

I am Zombie King of the Sea
All powerful that is me

I inhabit the depths where Leviathan roam
Down many steps I call my home

My beard is long and it is red
The source of my power keeps me fed

Like the pits of Mordor I am underwater death
Just dip in your toe and take a breath

Upon dolphins and whale I enjoy to feed
With but one bite I devour with speed

If your down my way come and say hi
I’ll invite you to stay I’ll bake a pie

The flavour could be penguin and shark
Bounty of the sea this aint no lark

Malcolm the Magician

© Mulga 2012, Malcolm The Magician, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode To Malcolm The Magician

Malcolm the magician lived in a pot of gold
His tricks were bad and getting old

He pulled some rabbits outta his hat
Then they scampered away and in his beard they sat

They were plenty fed and upon his scraps they ate
They liked the lettuce but their favourite was steak

Square Beard

© Mulga 2012, Square Beard, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Square Beard

Walking down the street other beards stop and stare
Dumbfounded at the feat of a beard growing so square

I’ll explain that this growth is not sculptured or trimmed
But that it’s shaped from the zombies thoughts from within

The things that are pondered inside this beasts brain
Are then reflected in the hair that grows on his face

Rodney RopeBeard

© Mulga 2012, Rodney RopeBeard, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode To Rodney Ropebeard

Rope Beard Rodney is an old sea salt
His poison of choice iswhiskey and malt

He nearly met his maker, sent by Moby Slick
The great grand whale of Moby Dick

This whale was a zombie beast stained red
From the blood of the men upon which it has fed

Rodney tried to harpoon this deathly whale
But the odds were against him he was doomed to fail

It’s skin was as strong as a golden orbs web
Harpoons were useless even to the head

Moby Slick devoured the entire stinking crew
Gobbled them up like some putrid human stew

Rodney did escape and he’ll tell you the tale
Of his high seas adventure with Moby Slick the whale

Snake Turban Steve

© Mulga 2012, Snake Turban Steve, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Snake Turban Steve

Snake Turban Steve is a weird and dangerous chap
His headwear of choice is the deadliest form of hat

If you give him any cheek his serpent will pluck out your eye
Then the beast’s deadly venom will make you slowly die

But if you carry a flute you know you’ll be alright
The snake will be yours and you’ll have no fight

Herman the Hipster

© Mulga 2012, Herman the Hipster, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Herman the Hipster

Herman the hipster is as smooth as butter
His yellow beard makes him seem real clever

His hipster goggles give him x-ray vision
And also allow him to read with precision

He reads in the park and sits under a tree
His favourite number is the number three

Viking Valgerd The Sad

© Mulga 2012, Viking Valgerd The Sad, Acrylic Paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

This is my latest submission for CreatureMag as part of Mulga’s Zombie Zoo.

An Ode to Valgerd The Sad

Sourced from the depths within these rainbow coloured tears
Gather in the many hairs of Val’s chinny chin chin

And without this magic liquid that from his eyes doth flow
This zombie vikings beard would all but fail to grow

And without the beard Val would lose his strength
Which is proportional to the beards girth and length

So to be strong he must be sad and cry like a child
That has lost his mummy in the supermarket aisle

See you next time

Mr T Bird Beard the Zombie

© Mulga 2012, Mr T Bird Beard the Zombie, Acrylic Paint and Posca Pen on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

I painted this dude for my fortnightly feature in CreatureMag called Mulga’s Zombie Zoo in which I post a new zombie painting every 2 weeks.

An Ode To Mr T Bird Beard

He’s a tough looking zombie with a look that strikes fear
But under the surface he’s a sweet old dear

The birds really love him and nest in his beard
They know in their hearts there’s not a thing to be feared

If everyone had a beard that was this fully grown
Every little bird would always have a home

See you next time.
