King Kemono King of Beasts Video

This is a timelapse video of when I painted King Kemono King of Beasts on a canvas in Tokyo.

The story of King Kemono King of Beasts

King Kemono King of Beasts was born Lazarus the Lion on the island of Delos in ancient Greece. He lived a humble life spending his days attending school and sailing his sailing boat and fishing for dinner.

When he grew up he took over the family cheese making business. The family cheese making business prospered under his stewardship but Lazarus grew restless and longed for adventure.
So one day he packed his sailing ship and sailed into the big blue yonder. He sailed the world for 3 years and had the best of times and the worst of times but mostly pretty good times.
When he arrived in Japan he fell in love with the place and the delish sushi on offer and decided to settle in Tokyo a bustling metropolis.
He purchased a minority shareholding in a local cheese importing company and through his contacts and expertise in the cheese industry he was able to grow it to be the number one cheese importing business in Japan. The Japanese people named him King Kemono King of Beasts (and cheese) and everyone had a good time.

In the Christmas holidays I had the good fortune to be invited to paint live at Mambo’s pop up shop in Circular Quay.

Mum and dad came along and helped me paint Mia the Magical Unicorn. She derives her magical powers from eating magical ice creams.

Trait was painting alongside me and he painted a magical kookaburra.

It was great times and everybody did a great job.

© Mulga 2014, Turtle Tom and Dana Weasel, Acrylic on Mounted Plywood, 40 x 60 cm

I was commissioned to paint a turtle and a weasel for a birthday present for Tom. This is what I painted.

An Ode to Turtle Tom and Dana Weasel

A turtle and a weasel that’s what I saw
Running from the club through the back door

What mischief they made I do not know
But the fellas chasing them were ready to go

Tom the turtle was a music dude
Gigging every night and playing for his food

A weasel called Dana was his manager chick
She called the shots and was very slick

While Tom was jamming Dana was always hustling
She would sniff out a card game and muscle her way in

Her methods were suss but she always won
And more often than not they’d leave on the run

A regular Bonnie and Clyde is what they were
And an interesting couple they made, him and her

This is a collage I made and is the third in a series of four.

You can buy a print here.

An Ode to Eiffel Tower Boat People

I emerged from the deep
In a lake so smooth
The Eiffel tower so sleek
I was in my groove

My appearance here
Was wholly unexpected
But I was very near
And the boat people were unaffected

The tower loomed
Like a steel beast
Large and overhead
My eyes did feast

Oh the wonder
That I did behold
On this very day
A statement bold

Joshua The Jolly Elephant – Video

This is a time lapse video of me creating Joshua the Jolly Elephant.

I also recite a poem about Joshua which I composed whilst staying in the African Jungle with a herd of African Elephants called the Big Grey Crew.

They are a lively bunch.

An Ode to Anton the Aztec Goat

A goat called Anton rowed his boat
Every day around the castle in the moat

And in that boat he wore a coat
And its patterns were great, he was known to gloat

“In the Incas I obtained my patterned coat”
In his daily journal is what he wrote

The coat was payment made in full
For head-butting one rampaging bull

He butted the bull and it ran away
And he saved all the village folk on that day

But that was a long time in the past
And now he can’t even run that fast

His time is now spent as a goat in a boat
Paddling in a moat while wearing a coat

It might seem silly but it floats his boat
That Anton the Goat who’s known to gloat

Bearded Elvis

Today marks the day 56 years ago that Elvis’s debut album, “Elvis Presley” was released.

I drew a picture of him with a sweet beard.

You can buy a print of this artwork here.

An Ode to Bearded Elvis

Most geezers think Elvis aint alive
But the truth is he’s just in disguise

I saw him the other day cruising down the street
He had a beard so spectacular and long and neat

Turns out he’s been hiding away
Behind his beard and bales of hay

All those many, many moons ago
He grew tired of the crowds and the Elvis show

So he pretended to die and began to grow a mo
Then the mo became a goatee that hung so low

Then came the chops and a full beard in time
Thus concludes this story and bearded Elvis rhyme

Terry the Tiger

I drew Terry the Tiger for a Le QC x Mulga collab. You can buy Terry on tees and jumpers at http://quaycollective.myshopify.com/collections/le-qc

An Ode to Terry the Tiger

Terry the Tiger was terrrific indeed
Of this single fact all the animals agreed

He ruled the jungle like a stripey king
Sometimes he would lounge, sometimes he would sing

Everywhere he went he wore his dazzling coat
And when he crossed the river he travelled by boat

He made his castle high in the trees
And he ate of the honey produced by bees

He was the finest specimen in all the land
And he fronted the best jungle rock band

They played every Saturday at the Jungle Pub
And chilled out after in the jungle hot tub

The original Laser Head Lance painting is available for sale in Platform72 Gallery, Oxford Street, Sydney

An Ode to Laser Head Lance

Laser Head Lance is a slippery old cat
Lives in a world of shadows covered up by his hat

The one day the wind turned from breeze into gale
Blew up his hat like a boat under sail

Those secrets within did explode out his head
And the colour of his hands were a deep shade of red

His secrets revealed that he’d been quite bad
And the fallout was severe and the people were mad

Oh how the mighty have fallen and the proud do stumble
Now Laser Head Lance is humbler than humble

And Ode to Jolly Joel

Tropical island’s in the sun
That’s where Jolly Joel has some fun

Where palm trees rustle in the breeze
And that’s where there is no killer bees

Bees of the killer kind just aren’t cool
And if you encounter them while sitting by the pool

You should jump in the water and splash around
Maybe those bees won’t sting you and you won’t be found

I once saw this movie about a girl
Macaulay Culkin was stung and he began to swell

Those stinking bees got him really bad
Then he died and it was fully sad

So what you need to learn after you’ve had a little cry
Is to stay away from killer bees otherwise you might die

Gary the Goatee Man

© Mulga 2012, Gary the Goatee Man, Posca and acrylic paint on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Gary the Goatee Man

Like John travolta this goats got style
But he’s also deadly, like slipping on a tile

Gary is a mutant, half goat half man
An unholy abomination, something like spam

He works security at a mutant night spot
Zapping unruly patrons with lasers so hot

He’s a grumpy old goat there aint no changing that
And dont ever try to make him wear a hat

The End

Lion Hat Leigh

© Mulga 2012, Lion Hat Leigh,Posca on Paper, 42 x 59 cm

An Ode to Lion Hat Leigh

Lion hat Leigh lives high in a tree
His Beard turned green, a sight to be seen

Because of his hat he’s chief of the tribe
He’s also very muscly, of this is do not lie

His hat was once a lion of the mountain kind
The taste of human flesh, it really did not mind

One night this lion it did pounce on Leigh
As he lay in his sleep he got bit on the knee

Then Leigh arose and battled this lion
Gave it a head butt and then it lay dying

He picked it up and put it on his head
Then lay back down to sleep in his bed

The End

Zombie King of the Sea

© Mulga 2012, Zombie King of the Sea, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 55 x 75 cm

An Ode to the Zombie King of the Sea

I am Zombie King of the Sea
All powerful that is me

I inhabit the depths where Leviathan roam
Down many steps I call my home

My beard is long and it is red
The source of my power keeps me fed

Like the pits of Mordor I am underwater death
Just dip in your toe and take a breath

Upon dolphins and whale I enjoy to feed
With but one bite I devour with speed

If your down my way come and say hi
I’ll invite you to stay I’ll bake a pie

The flavour could be penguin and shark
Bounty of the sea this aint no lark

Malcolm the Magician

© Mulga 2012, Malcolm The Magician, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode To Malcolm The Magician

Malcolm the magician lived in a pot of gold
His tricks were bad and getting old

He pulled some rabbits outta his hat
Then they scampered away and in his beard they sat

They were plenty fed and upon his scraps they ate
They liked the lettuce but their favourite was steak

Square Beard

© Mulga 2012, Square Beard, Acrylic and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Square Beard

Walking down the street other beards stop and stare
Dumbfounded at the feat of a beard growing so square

I’ll explain that this growth is not sculptured or trimmed
But that it’s shaped from the zombies thoughts from within

The things that are pondered inside this beasts brain
Are then reflected in the hair that grows on his face

Rodney RopeBeard

© Mulga 2012, Rodney RopeBeard, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode To Rodney Ropebeard

Rope Beard Rodney is an old sea salt
His poison of choice iswhiskey and malt

He nearly met his maker, sent by Moby Slick
The great grand whale of Moby Dick

This whale was a zombie beast stained red
From the blood of the men upon which it has fed

Rodney tried to harpoon this deathly whale
But the odds were against him he was doomed to fail

It’s skin was as strong as a golden orbs web
Harpoons were useless even to the head

Moby Slick devoured the entire stinking crew
Gobbled them up like some putrid human stew

Rodney did escape and he’ll tell you the tale
Of his high seas adventure with Moby Slick the whale

Snake Turban Steve

© Mulga 2012, Snake Turban Steve, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Snake Turban Steve

Snake Turban Steve is a weird and dangerous chap
His headwear of choice is the deadliest form of hat

If you give him any cheek his serpent will pluck out your eye
Then the beast’s deadly venom will make you slowly die

But if you carry a flute you know you’ll be alright
The snake will be yours and you’ll have no fight

Herman the Hipster

© Mulga 2012, Herman the Hipster, Acrylic paint and Posca on Paper, 30 x 40 cm

An Ode to Herman the Hipster

Herman the hipster is as smooth as butter
His yellow beard makes him seem real clever

His hipster goggles give him x-ray vision
And also allow him to read with precision

He reads in the park and sits under a tree
His favourite number is the number three
