Mulga the Artist Creates Moveable Mural for Catherine McAuley College in Mackay, QLD
Mulga the Artist recently completed a vibrant school mural for Catherine McAuley College in Mackay, Queensland, bringing his signature colourful characters to life on a set of three large marine-plywood panels. Designed as a moveable mural, these panels will eventually be installed in the school’s brand-new, state-of-the-art Art Building once construction is complete.
Painting indoors was a welcome bonus for Mulga - especially in the Mackay heat, where temperatures soar above 30°C. Working in the comfort of air-conditioning, he brought the school’s creative brief to life: a bold and energetic design featuring the seven sports house mascots.
The mural took three full days to complete and quickly became a highlight of the campus. As part of the project, Mulga also delivered several student art workshops, giving learners the chance to explore illustration, character design, and creativity alongside a well-loved Australian mural artist.
This Mulga mural not only celebrates school spirit but also showcases the kind of meaningful, hands-on arts engagement that inspires students long after the paint dries.
