FAQs - About Mulga
Mulga is the creative alter ego of Joel Moore, a Sydney-based artist celebrated for vibrant, summer-themed illustrations, murals, print designs, merchandise, poetry, and brand collaborations filled with tropical characters and good vibes.
Joel Moore
Mulga lives and works in Cronulla, Sydney—a coastal suburb that heavily influences his style and characters.
In primary school in year 5 when he was 11 a friend dubbed him “Mulga” after he recited Mulga Bill’s Bicycle by famed Australian poet Banjo Paterson in class. The name endured and became his artist persona.
Before diving into art full-time, Mulga worked as a paraplanner in a financial planning business. Eventually, he’d had enough and decided to chase his passion for making art. His plan? Create rad artwork, print it on tees, and sell them at weekend markets. For two years, he juggled markets, art exhibitions, and any creative gig he could land. In 2014, he took the leap and committed full-time. These days, Mulga paints murals, runs workshops, designs merch, and collaborates with some of the world’s biggest brands to share his vibrant, summer-loving art with the world
