School Mural at Pacific Palms Public School | Mulga The Artist
Mulga really got back to nature while painting his latest school mural at Pacific Palms Public School, south of Forster on the NSW Mid North Coast.
Commissioned as part of the school’s creative outdoor learning environment, the large-scale mural was designed to bring colour, local wildlife, and a strong sense of community identity into the playground space. Mulga’s school murals are created to inspire students, brighten shared spaces, and create memorable visual experiences.
The design features a collection of creatures local to the area and the school community. Even the headland at Boomerang Beach, just a short walk from the school, makes an appearance in the artwork.
Each day was accompanied by a cacophony of lorikeets, which felt especially appropriate considering the school mascot is a lorikeet named Palmy - who naturally earned a spot in the mural.
At recess and lunchtime, Mulga often found himself surrounded by curious students watching the mural come to life. There were endless questions, comments, and the occasional special request, including one student asking if their pet bird could be painted into the mural as well.
Mulga was also regularly visited by a bush turkey named Barry and a kookaburra who may or may not already have a name - so if anyone knows it, he’d love to hear it.
The kookaburra had apparently built quite a reputation around the school for stealing students’ lunches, sometimes straight out of their hands. During one of Mulga’s workshops in the school hall, the cheeky bird even flew inside and started circling the room in search of some lunchbox tucker.
Being an outdoor mural, it was almost inevitable that rain would eventually arrive and send streaks of paint running down the wall mid-process. Fortunately, it only happened once, so progress wasn’t too heavily affected by the weather.
In the end, the mural took four days to complete, transforming the school wall into a vibrant public artwork celebrating local nature, creativity, and community spirit.
Mulga creates custom school murals, playground murals, and educational art projects for primary schools, high schools, and community spaces throughout Australia. His colourful mural artworks are designed to encourage creativity, spark imagination, and make schools exciting places for students, teachers, and visitors alike.
